bexio Import
Switching from bexio to Lumabill? The import feature lets you bring over your existing data quickly and easily. Lumabill supports importing clients, catalog items, and chart of accounts data. Navigate to Settings > bexio Import to get started.
Supported Data Types
Clients
Import your entire client database from bexio:
- Company and contact names
- Addresses (street, postal code, city, country)
- Email addresses and phone numbers
- Client numbers (carried over as reference)
Catalog/Products
Bring over your product catalog:
- Item names and descriptions
- Prices and units
- VAT rates
Chart of Accounts
If you use the bookkeeping module, you can also import your bexio chart of accounts:
- Account numbers and names
- Account categories (assets, liabilities, expenses, revenue)
Exporting Data from bexio
Before you can import, you need to export the data from bexio:
- Log in to your bexio account
- Navigate to the relevant section (e.g. Contacts for clients)
- Select Export and save the file in CSV format
- Repeat for each data type you want to bring over
Tip: Make sure the export is saved in UTF-8 encoding so that special characters (umlauts, accents) are preserved correctly.
Running the Import
- Navigate to Settings > bexio Import
- Select the data type (clients, catalog, or chart of accounts)
- Click Upload File and choose the exported CSV file
- Lumabill analyzes the file and shows a preview of the detected fields
- Review field mapping: Map the CSV columns to Lumabill fields -- in most cases, Lumabill detects the mapping automatically
- Click Import to start the process
Duplicate Detection
Lumabill automatically checks for potential duplicates based on name and email address. If an existing entry is found, you can choose to:
- Skip -- The existing entry remains unchanged
- Update -- The existing entry is overwritten with the imported data
Error Handling
If individual rows cannot be imported (e.g. missing required fields), Lumabill displays a detailed error list. You can correct the CSV file and re-run the import.
After the Import
After a successful import, we recommend:
- Spot-check a few imported records to verify accuracy
- Fill in any missing information (e.g. IBAN for clients)
- Adjust the chart of accounts to your needs if necessary
